I enjoyed this book, read it in one evening. The photographs are printed well, and it is a good introduction to Mary Ellen Mark's work. This isn't a classic beginner's book on "how to take a portrait, operate your camera, lighting, etc.," so if you know very little about photography, this is probably wouldn't be that helpful as an instructional guide, but if you are really into photography, love looking at pictures, enjoy learning about the thought processes behind great photographers, then you will find this book well worth your time.
