Stronger: Forty Days of Metal and Spirituality Details

From Booklist Five years ago, Brian “Head” Welch found God, walked away from a wildly successful career as guitarist for the heavy metal band Korn, and wrote a best-seller about his crisis and conversion (Save Me from Myself, 2005). Five years later, Welch is ostensibly older, wiser, and, as the title of this suggests, stronger and ready to share some of that hard-earned wisdom in what he calls “not your typical devotional book.” Welch offers 40 biblical passages that have particular relevance to his life and spiritual journey. Each receives its own chapter, with a related anecdote from the author’s recent history—these stories range from the hilarious to the harrowing—told in an engagingly straightforward, if sometimes awkward, style. The biblical excerpts are often from more modern interpretations, lending them clarity while also fitting the book’s tone. Illustrations highlight the entries with an aggressive clarity that echoes Welch’s brutal honesty. The tell-all redemption memoir might not be the most original genre, but Welch does it well, presenting the reader with a raw and heartfelt diary of his spiritual journey thus far. --Taina Lagodzinski Read more From the Back Cover New York Times bestselling author Brian "Head" Welch returns with a raw and unforgettable journey through his life with Christ and the scripture that has helped lead him into deeper intimacy with GodIn 2007, Brian “Head” Welch, the former lead guitaristfor the hard-rock band Korn, shared the dramaticstory of his music, drug addiction, and miraculousredemption through Jesus Christ in his New YorkTimes bestselling book, Save Me from Myself.Inspiring and compelling, this book began a newchapter in his life, as he acknowledged the mistakes ofhis past and looked forward to a brighter future withGod at his side. Now in Stronger, Head continues to share hispersonal life with an unflinching forty-day devotional ofscriptures that have helped him to mold his Christianfaith and find light during life’s darkest moments.Written with passion and openness, this forty-dayjourney offers stories from Head’s past and present,as he speaks candidly about his bouts of depressionsince finding God, his struggles against the darknessas he’s tried to understand his faith, and how, throughthese times of weakness, God’s written word has beenone of the keys to making him stronger than he’sever been. Head has quite a story. His other books are very good reads if you're so inclined. He openly shares his life story in his books, the good, the bad and the ugly. He's gained a little wisdom over the years, like many of us, much of it was self inflicted, a result of poor choices. The beauty of his books is that he doesn't hide any of it. You can learn from his past without the enduring some of the lumps that he took. He's quite an inspiration to me because he never quits. He gets knocked down and then he begins to look for the lessons to be found in the difficult situations. He's happy to share these lessons with his readers. Why not learn and be encouraged by someone who's been there, so you don't have to go there? Great book, I whole heartedly recommend it.
